Dish the Dirt

Miss Jessica would like your advice... she is about to make a large purchase and wants to know your thoughts.

My vacuum is an Electrolux. It was purchased second hand but it seems to do a great job when I use it. The cleaning lady, I'm not sure what she has but I'm pretty sure it is run more in my house than mine is.

We are preparing to purchase a new vacuum this weekend, replacing the hand-me-down given to us when we purchased our house from my parents.I have researched and read reviews for hours now but still can not decide. I am strongly leaning toward a Dyson D17 Animal but choke when I get to the $550 price tag.In talking to several people I am coming to the realization this is a moderate price for a good vacuum cleaner which makes handing over the cash non the less easy.If I am spending that much money I should be able to wear it, ride it, or visit it!

What kind of Dirt “Diva” do you use? What are your recommendations; the good, the bad, and the dirtiest? I would like something bag-less geared toward animals and hyper-allergenic.

Dish me the Dirt….I can take it!

The five year warrenty makes me worry less on my Dyson D17. My old vacum was close to $300 and broke a year later with no warrenty.

Dyson! We went through about every different brand out there, and they would only last about a year before we were making good use of the Best Buy service plan. Two kids + a golden retriever = lots of vacuum use. Anyway, the Dyson has lasted over two years with NO PROBLEMS! I LOVE IT!

Go Kirby. (Hey r not bagless but they r amazing and come with so many attachments u hardly need any other cleaning tools! Plus u can totally barter and make payments if u need to! And they buy ur old one! Only downside is u have to find a salesman u can't just walk into a store and get 1 :s

We have a Dyson Slim and love it. When I was shopping for vacs and also choking on the price of Dyson, I got great advice from a friend who makes a living evaluating home products. She said, get something you love to use (and that makes your life easier) because the more you love it, the more you'll vacuum, and you really should be vacuuming several times a week if not every other day. (Gulp!) At that point we hated our vacuum and only vacuumed once a week if we were lucky. Now with the beloved Dyson we vacuum 3-4 times a week. Totally worth it.

We purchased a German engineered Sebo about 4 years ago and love it. It's great for picking up pet hair, has everything attached and easy to use. Even though it has a bag, it is sooo easy to change. Absolutely love it! Well worth the price.

I have a redneck husbnd, 2 dogs and a cat and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Dyson! If you suck something up you shouldnt, the whole thing pops apart in 2 minutes and you can fish out that pop lid or whatever. Every part on the Animal D17 is designed to come apart with either a switch of the thumb or a penny (yes, the little notches that turn are designed to be opened with a penny turn).
The lifetime filter hasnt done me wrong in 3 years. There is a side filter that you take out and wash every six months. Its washable, so not buying filters ever. I wash mine every month or so, because it DOES lose suction a bit if that side filter is too dusty, and with all the animal dander, it just bugs me to not wash it.

I LOVE IT
