To Gift or Not to Gift

That is the question....

Daycare teachers/providers. Do you give them a gift? Do you take them a tray of cookies? Do you just assume that since you are paying them for their services that is gift enough?

Last year I was new to all of this holiday daycare stuff so imagine my surprise when Zack's teacher's started giving him gifts and in return I saw other parents bringing in cookie plates and gift sacks. By the time I realized what was going on, it was too late for me to recover. I just pretended not to know any better and went on my way.

This year, however, I vowed to be different. Zack has loved all three of his primary teachers this year and so I wanted to make sure we show them some appreciation.

Which brings us to the next question. What do you give a daycare teacher/provider? Gift certificates for restaurants, shopping centers, coffee places? Cookies and holiday treats? In the end I settled on willow tree angels.

Wisdom - for his two teachers from January through the end of September

Angel of Learning - for his teacher now Angel of Wishes - for his Tuesday night babysitter/afternoon teacher (who is by the way the sweetest little girl and I'm SOO sad that she's a senior and graduating!!)

So what do you think? What did you get your daycare teachers/providers??

That is VERY sweet!

Last year I did individual gifts and realized that I missed abunch of teachers.

My kids have several depending on the time of day... and they are play an important role-- however I do not have the money to go and spend $10 a pop on them (an extra$100!) so I went the tray of cookies for everyone route this year!

When we were taking XBoy to a private day care, we gave her gifts like above b/c she collected them.

Now that both kids go to a care center, I recommned a gift the center can use (bean bag chairs, puzzles, games, art supplies, etc.)

Ask your teacher as I'm sure she would appreciate something the class would benefit from.

I found some cute picture frames at my local thrift store and put in photos of Lennon & Lily for the kids teachers. I figured they could always re-use the frames for other photos later if they wanted and, of course, I think they find my kids as cute as I do!!

We didn't do gifts for teachers until this year, when there was a class gift (Ben is in 2nd grade) but at his old school, they'd ask for stuff for the classroom INSTEAD of gifts. Which was fine by me.

I think you should get them something that is consumable whether it be food or a gift card. If every child got them a knick knack of some sort I can only imagine (breathing into brown bag) what their (breathing faster into brown bag) house would (barely breathing into brown bag)look like!

My bag has a hole in it....

We did Target gift cards for each teacher and K's therapists this year. My cousin teaches 3rd grade and every year, she gets more bath stuff, knickknacks, and cookies than she can reasonably use or store. She gives away most of it. Gift cards, while certainly less personal, are what they prefer most of the time. I chose Target just because I figure everyone can find something they want at Target, even if it's just groceries one week!

As being a daycare teacher myself...it is a gift everyday to watch their children grow and learn! I have 6 months to a year olds and I love and laugh at everything that they do that is new. But I will tell you that it makes US feel so good when parents write a heart felt card about how much they do and some goodies wouldn't hurt either! But we work so hard for little pay and no thanks sometimes...it is nice to know that we are appreciated!
Anywho...thats what I think...
